With 8 cafes we have decided it is time to start roasting our own coffee! We are incredibly excited about this. Although we love our signature blend, we will soon have the opportunity to refine this further, to work with exciting new coffees, and offer our very own carefully chosen range of single origin coffees too.
Work is beginning over the summer at our Fineshade site, near Corby, converting the beautiful Big Barn into an exciting new centre for our Roastery and refurbished Cycle Centre. For the coffee geeks amongst you we are purchasing a Giesen W6E which will roast the beans for all our cafes as well as for our online shop.
Coffee subscriptions and coffee hampers are all part of our plans for the future. It’s a huge project for us, and we are trying at each step to think about our impact on the environment – everything from where we source our beans to how we send out coffee to customers. So already we are looking at selling coffee beans loose for those of you able to visit and refill; for the right reusable containers with which to distribute beans across our sites so we reduce packaging but keep freshness locked in; and for the right packaging to send coffee out by post.
The Roastery will also be our company hub for training. We are refining our own Grounds Coffee Training programme, and our Roastery will host practical training sessions for staff (and we hope for home brewers too!), complementing our existing site by site and online training for staff.
For customers, our aim is to create an amazing space in which we can welcome customers, to try our coffees, discover more about their favourite drink and to hold unforgettable experience days.
The “Roastery in the Woods” will not only be a perfect addition to our Fineshade site – with our café and cycle centre next door, but an incredible addition to our company as a whole which we are very, very excited about!
